According to the US Department of Agriculture, a total of 400,000 citizens of Florida who were affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton have applied for emergency food assistance under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Within 14 days of one another, Florida was directly hit by two tropical storms, resulting in flooding, homelessness, injuries, and even fatalities, as well as missing person’s reports.
President Joe Biden’s administration has made D-SNAP available for about 407,733 houses affected by the events because people who survived must pick themselves up and try to move on. In order to ensure that they can afford groceries and other pricey foods to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, people who would typically not be able to meet the SNAP income criteria or other conditions can apply for the benefits.
